CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE (COPD)

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is defined as a disorder that is characterized by reduced maximal expiratory flow and slow forced emptying of the lungs; features that do not change markedly over several months. This limitation in airflow is only minimally reversible with bronchodilators. COPD actually comprises two related disease, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, one rarely occurring without a degree of the other.

Smoking is the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in the world. The Indian Council of Medical Research has carried out studies on smoking in India, which revealed that 800,000 people die each year in India because of tabacco-related disease. It is estimated that by 2020, 13 per cent of all deaths in India will solely be related to tabacco consumption. There are 184 million tabacco consumers in India, and Indians smoke 90 billion cigarettes annually.

The general diagnosis is based on the pulmonary function tests like Forced Expiratory Volume per second (FEV1) and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) measured by the Spiro meter. These tests are simple expressions of complex processes, just like blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels measure complex processes. The numbers obtained for FEV1 (air flow) and FVC (air volume) by a Spiro meter are important for the patient and the physician to help diagnose COPD and to monitor the course of the diseases and response to treatment.

Conclusion

“ A multicentric Randomised Double Blind Placebo controlled trial was conducted for more than 400 patients – 80% of them were smokers”. A six month study on the patients revealed the LUNG–KR showed 0.2L improvement in FEV1 value (Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 sec.) in 20% of the patients who have taken the herbal drug but both allopathy and placebo miserably failed to do so. More than sixty percent of the patients who have taken the LUNG– KR also showed improvement in the desired oxygen intake (>80%) in arterial blood gas analysis. Drug LUNG–KR shows good lengthy respiration and reduces respiration rate. Reduction in severity index of dyspnoea, rales and rhonchi was also observed. Sputum also thinned considerably and the drug acted as a mucolyte. LUNG–KR also shows reduction in cough / cessation of cough during the night; ease and expectoration in pleurisy and peripneumonia and relieving sputum to spill out from the lung. It also cures symptoms like Bronchial tubes overloaded with mucus.
