HEPATOTOXICITY
Hepatotoxicity is
a term used to describe those instances in which a medication
or chemical substance has caused injury to the
liver.
A number
of drugs can cause liver toxicity. The symptoms of
hepatotoxicity (liver damage) can be mild and can escape
notice. It can also lead to permanent injury and death.
Therefore, it is important to detect hepatotoxicity in its
early stages so that steps can be taken to arrest its
development and allow the liver to heal.
The
symptoms of drug induced hepatitis are similar to that of
infectious hepatitis. Patient may suffer from any of the
following symptoms :
